CNN Rates Princeville’s St. Regis Princeville Resort, Kauai, Hawaii As a Top Celebrity Choice

If Hawaii is paradise, then this is an especially lovely corner of it, surrounded by five mountains, a wildlife refuge, hiking trails, ancient sea caves and lagoons.

“Kauai is a little bit more secluded — it’s a little quieter than some of the isles and the resort is on the very sleepy but lush North Shore,” Gifford said.

“Every (suite) has butler service, they’ve got an amazing infinity pool, gorgeous mountain views — it’s going to attract a very exclusive crowd.”

Exclusive indeed: Alicia Keys, George Clooney, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck all have been to the hotel.  And with residences close by: Pierce Brosnan, Harrison Ford, Ben Stiller, Bette Midler, Julia Roberts to add to the illustrious list.

Kaua’i’s Bruce Irons, brother of three-time ASP World Champion Andy Irons, who died last year to world-wide grieving, presented the Andy Irons Trophy to surfer Jeremy Flores, the first recipient.  The standard for the award is for outstanding surfing (Flores had two rides of perfect tens), persistence, and sheer guts.

Teahupoo in Tahiti is regarded by many as the premier big wave surfing spot in the world, although the pros may differ considering Jaws, the Banzai Pipeline, Outside Hanalei Bay off Princeville, and many others which are condition dependent.

Andy and Brother Bruce are idolized by surfers around the world, and Princeville/Hanalei Kaua’i, their home base, is particularly revered as well.

Fantastic surfing can be seen by Googling Billabong Pro Tahiti, which has many videos of the great athleticism and skills of the best in the world.  The event was won by ten-times ASP World Champion Kelly Slater, now an ‘aged’ 39 years old, proving once again that in some sports, experience counts.

Be a part of the island of water sports greatness: Kaua’i.
